Our Core Values
Biblical Foundation
We place God first in all that we do, allowing biblical truth to guide our decisions, actions, and relationships. Our work is an extension of our faith, and we strive to honor God through integrity, humility, service, and obedience in both leadership and daily responsibilities.
Servant Leadership
We are missionaries first in our business and in our community and world. We lead by serving—supporting one another, putting the team before ourselves, and creating a positive impact through our actions.
Integrity
We are transparent, honest, and accountable in everything we do. We do the right thing even when no one is watching.
Quality
We are committed to giving our customers the best products possible. We do not cut corners or skip steps, and we take pride in doing things the right way every time.
Passion
We take pride in our work ethic and maintain a “get it done” mentality. We think forward, stay motivated, and continuously look for ways to create an outstanding experience at Johnston’s Meat Market.
Johnston’s Meat Market has proudly served Monticello and the surrounding communities since 1926. Founded by Felix and Alice Johnston, the business began as a meat locker plant at a time when most families did not have refrigeration. Johnston’s filled a vital need by providing meat locker rentals and a trusted local meat market, quickly becoming a cornerstone of the community.
In the 1950s, the next generation carried the tradition forward when the Johnston’s daughter, Felice, and her husband, Cap Shuman, took over the business. After Cap’s service in the Korean War, the couple led Johnston’s for more than 40 years, expanding its reach while preserving the values it was built on—quality meats, hometown customer service, and country-cured smoked products enjoyed throughout Florida and into Georgia.
In 1997, Johnston’s entered its third generation when Cap and Felice passed the reins to their daughter Becky and her husband, Hal Bennett. Under their leadership, the market continued to grow, adding an expanded retail space, a full meat counter, and a modern processing facility for cattle and hogs. Johnston’s became one of the premier USDA-certified meat processing plants serving Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, later expanding services to include goat and sheep processing.
The most recent chapter began in June 2022 when Patrick Figueroa joined Johnston’s as General Manager. Over the next two years, he helped guide the business to new heights, fulfilling long-held goals for growth and sustainability. In December 2024, Patrick officially purchased Johnston’s Meat Market, becoming only the fourth owner in its 100-year history.
While Johnston’s continues to grow and evolve, some things will never change—our famous smoked sausage, our commitment to exceptional customer service, and the welcoming feeling you get the moment you walk through our doors. You may come in as a customer, but you’ll always leave as a friend.

A glimpse into
Adaliah’s Mission Work
“It’s officially been one month since I began living overseas here in Africa, and my heart has been forever changed. I have grown such a deep love for the Karamojong and Acholi people. Even with a language barrier, it’s so easy to become friends—and even family—with them.
This first month has taken me into villages and tribes, bringing sweet connections and new friendships. It’s carried me down dangerous roads, muddy paths, and even routes completely blocked by buses that had slid in the mud—four of them on the same road! Yet, through every challenge, God carried us, and we overcame.
My love for Jesus has deepened to levels I can hardly describe. I’ve witnessed people come to know His love and choose to follow Him, even when they know it could cost them their lives. That kind of faith has truly touched my heart. It’s a reminder that God can do far more than we can ask or imagine—if we simply put our trust in Him.
I have many, many stories to share and only so many hours in the day. I plan to put a blog up this weekend with some of my month’s travels. I hope all of these things encourage your heart to share the love of Jesus and to put more and more of your trust in Him. We all need a Savior, because we all need saving from something—and Jesus is the answer to it all.
I’ll leave you with one story. The man you see jumping in my video—for all his life until a couple of months ago, he was lame, completely unable to walk. The Lord healed him, and he shouted with joy and danced for us, saying, “Look! Look! I can now jump, I can now dance, and give Jesus all the praise He deserves because He has been so good to me.” This man lives deep in the bush in the Karamojong tribe. He hasn’t even received his first Bible yet, and he struggles to find food every day. But he has more faith than most, and it convicts my heart and makes me sad that most of us, especially here in America forget that we need Jesus and He can heal us.
Don’t get me wrong I miss home and I miss my people’s. But now it seems as though my home has doubled, my heart will forever be split in two always missing one home or the other.”

“I’ll be working in both in the field and behind the scenes, with Favor Ministry to bring hope of the Gospel to unreached communities. Whether it’s disciplining others face to face or helping administratively to support the mission’s reach. I am committed to doing whatever it takes so more hearts can know the love, peace and joy of my Jesus.”
“If you feel led to give monthly or even one time , know that you’re not just giving to me. You are sowing into Kingdom work that goes far beyond borders. We go together until all have heard.”
